Do I Need Therapy Or Just A Good Nap?
Hey Cuties,
I’m back with another blog! Do you ever have those days when everything feels overwhelming? Everyone seems extra annoying, even the chirping birds feel like they’re out to ruin your vibe, and all these emotions have you wondering, “Do I need to see a therapist?” But then, you take a nap, and suddenly, the world feels like a better place. And there you are, stuck wondering—Do I actually need therapy, or was I just sleep-deprived?
Well talking about the Therapy part, it’s just paying someone to listen to you rant about how your life is a chaotic mess, nod sympathetically, and then hit you with, “How does that make you feel?” Uh, terrible, that’s why I’m here. Therapy is where you can finally complain about how annoying your classmates are, without someone telling you, “Just ignore them.”
And let’s not forget the real kicker: you walk in thinking your problems are surface-level, like “I’m stressed,” but by session two, your therapist casually says, “That sounds like childhood trauma.” Cool, so now I have trauma AND a classmate problem. Therapy: Where you go in thinking you just need advice and come out realizing you need a whole personality reboot. And what if I become Unfunny after going to Therapy?
Then there’s sleep. Ah, sweet sleep, the ultimate escape hatch from this crazy world. You might think you can survive on just a few hours of sleep and an unhealthy amount of coffee, but deep down, your body is silently screaming, “Please, for the love of all that is sacred, just let me sleep!”
Sleep is like your body saying, “I’m done, peace out, let’s reboot and try again tomorrow.” It’s that much-needed timeout where your brain gets to organize the mess you made during the day—like the three times you spilt coffee on yourself or that embarrassing text you definitely shouldn’t have sent. Sleep erases it all (well until you wake up and remember the damage you did).
But let’s be real—sometimes, all you need is a nap. No explanation is needed. Just shut it all down, hit pause, and recharge so you can function like a semi-human again. It’s like charging your phone. You wouldn’t let it run on 10% all day, so why let yourself do it?
At the end of the day, you need both: therapy for the emotional cleanup and sleep for the “I can’t deal with this right now” reset. Therapy is like cleaning out the junk drawer of your brain—uncomfortable but necessary. Sleep? That’s just hitting "restart" when your brain’s still stuck on loading.
So, when you’re debating therapy vs. a nap, ask yourself: Are you emotionally overloaded or just physically running on empty? If it's both, start with a nap—then schedule therapy to figure out why you napped for six hours.
Self-care is all about balance—whether it’s hitting snooze or confronting your mental baggage.
